Mortgage lenders must comply with the federal Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, or RESPA. While the enforcement of RESPA by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has been dormant in the past, HUD has recently stepped up its enforcement efforts. Now, more than ever, mortgage lenders must ensure they are complying with RESPA.  Even with proposed RESPA reform emerging from HUD, the industry still faces time for review, approval and implementation of anything new.  Until then, we will still be bound by existing federal RESPA rules.  In this four-hour course we will learn how Sections 8 and 9 of the Real Estate Settlement and Procedures Act applies to loan originators and mortgage brokers, which acts are prohibited, what the exceptions are, the HUD I Settlement Statement, and what RESPA reform has in store for us.
